Welcome to Residents Against Asbestos Waste

As you may be aware, Derbyshire County Council have received a planning application to operate a waste transfer station in Old Whittington.  This waste will include the receiving and storage of asbestos which causes mesothelioma.

Reasons to object are:

  • too close to residential homes
  • storage of hazardous waste - asbestos
  • risks of mesothelioma - CANCER
  • proposed site was extensively flooded in 2007
  • will become a dump site for asbestos waste
  • the company cannot guarantee 100% safety

We need your help!!!  What we need you to do is write to Derbyshire County Council and object to the planning application.

RAAW Awareness Day :1 November 2008

RAAW enjoyed a highly informative day on Saturday when the campaign group staged its first Asbestos Awareness Day.

The event, which took place at Mary Swanwick Memorial Hall, Old Whittington, was attended by dozens of residents.

Talks were given by health professionals, local councillors, Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team, RAAW's supporting solicitors Ashton Morton Slack, a local lung cancer sufferer and

RAAW itself.

A RAAW spokeswoman, said: "The day was very informative and at times very moving.

"We hope to take a lot of what we learnt to help build a strong case against the waste transfer plans."

Campaigners were encouraged by the number of people who signed letters of objection on the day and others who put their names forward to attend the planning meeting.

RAAW would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.
