Residents Against Asbestos Waste

Welcome to Residents Against Asbestos Waste

As you may be aware, Derbyshire County Council have received a planning application to operate a waste transfer station in Old Whittington.  This waste will include the receiving and storage of asbestos which causes mesothelioma.

Reasons to object are:

  • too close to residential homes
  • storage of hazardous waste - asbestos
  • risks of mesothelioma - CANCER
  • proposed site was extensively flooded in 2007
  • will become a dump site for asbestos waste
  • the company cannot guarantee 100% safety

We need your help!!!  What we need you to do is write to Derbyshire County Council and object to the planning application.

BREAKING NEWS

Dozens of residents have signed-up to attend the planning meeting when it is finally heard - it was revealed tonight (March 21).

A total of 54 residents have so far put their names down for County Hall, Matlock - the latest meeting of the RAAW committee heard.

A RAAW spokeswoman, said: "This is an absolutely fantastic response.

"It means just over a quarter of people got in touch with RAAW out of 200 contacted during our recent newsletter drop."

The campaign group will now be circulating more newsletters over the coming weeks in a bid to push the numbers up even higher.

Thank you to everyone who got in touch to pledge their support.

If you want to attend the meeting just click on the 'enquiry' button (left).

Remember to tell all your neighbours and get them to contact us too!

Your community needs you!

A date has yet to be set for the waste transfer application for Whitting Valley Road, Old Whittington, to go before county planners.

However, we want to be prepared for when it is finally ‘called in’.

This is where you, our neighbours and friends, can help out.

If you want to make sure YOUR future health—and that of your children/grandchildren— is not put at risk, then please read on.

We want to take as many people as possible with us to the planning meeting at County Hall, Matlock.

You don’t need to speak, we just need bums on seats to show the strength of feeling within our community.

Everyone at some time or another thinks ‘someone else will sort it out’ or ‘it’s not my problem’.

A small number of residents so outraged by this proposal to bring asbestos into Old Whittington decided they couldn’t just sit back and let it happen, so formed a campaign group called RAAW.

We vowed not to let this application go through without a fight and have been tirelessly working hard to stop it - ever since we formed RAAW almost a year ago.

If you want to protect your health and prevent your community from becoming a dumping ground for everyone else’s waste, then please contact us by clicking on the 'enquiry' link left.

We will contact you as soon as we find out a date for the Aspect Contracts application.

Buses will be laid on FREE of charge to take us to County Hall.
